I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason.
When I was starting to plan for my new photography business here in the Chicago area, I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and got to work. I mean, I was able to get myself a nice business going in Savannah, so I knew hard work would triumph again.
Right before we were set to make the 1,000 mile drive back north, I saw a tweet from the North Shore magazine, Make It Better. They were looking for freelance photographers. This is a must read magazine for any North Shore family. Their mission is to be the community network that helps North Shore women make our lives and the lives of others better. Not only are they big on helping one another, but their work with charitable organizations is one to be greatly admired. I knew this was a magazine I would love to do work with.
Well, the next day, as I am in the car, jamming to my iPod (did I really just say jamming?), I get a call from Make It Better, looking for someone to shoot their cover for August (it was a cool dual cover edition, with A Guide to Aging Well on one side and Education Innovators on the other). Oh, and they were looking for someone to shoot the next day!
I jump at any opportunity presented to me. While we were able to schedule it for a few days later (phew!), I was more than willing to get to work.
This shot for the cover was a clear favorite of mine from the start. This grandmother was so adorable with her granddaughter.
So here I am, little ole me, published in this incredible magazine.
