Copyright is a tricky thing sometimes…but it is a very important part of photography, and my work. I ask that you read through what copyright entails and please respect it. :)
The moment I take a picture I automatically own copyright to that image. The only way anyone could have copyright on one of my images is by me signing it away to them….and I don’t do that. :)
What does that mean? It means that nobody can copy my image and use it without my express permission. This means, even though the image may be of you, I still own copyright. You have rights as far as how I use that image. In other words, if you do not wish me to use your images on my website, I will honor that.
You also infringe on copyright if you take my picture and change it, for example by giving it a treatment in photoshop or including it in a collection of other images. Again, even though the image is of you, it doesn’t give you the right to manipulate it.
It does not matter if you have no intention of making money from the copied image. You infringe on copyright the moment you make a copy of my work. This includes downloading from the Internet or scanning an image you purchased from me.
So in other words, when you purchase a print from me, you are purchasing that one print. Not the right to scan and make additional copies. Not the right to scan and change something in Photoshop.
If you purchase high resolution files from me, you will be given a print release. This will allow you to print as you wish, however it still does not relinquish copyright. That is still owned by me.
I have worked very hard to hone my skills to bring the best product I can. This is how I earn my living. There is so much more to this than snapping a picture and making a print. Please do not infringe on that by stealing from me…and copying images is doing just that.
