Look Who is ONE!

I can’t believe it has been a whole year since I met Miss K.
I have known mom since my teaching days, so it has always been a pleasure to photograph this family.

We weren’t sure about a snow session as part of the deal, but I think they turned out fantastic!
Everyone was “stylishly warm”.

Make sure you see how Miss K has grown by checking out her newborn, heads up, and sitting up sessions as a part of the Baby Milestone Plan I offer.
It is a great way to document that important first year!

Kim Hill - She has such personality and the most beautiful blue eyes. I bet it was fun to hang out with her that day. :)

Kelly Q - What a sweetie! Love the little tutu and bare tummy and tootsies combo!

Kid's Photos - What a cute little girl. The shot with the brown cushion is particularly nice.

Winter Models

I love working with models, being able to try new things, not worry about anything other than creating something that I love. My good friend Mike gathers a bunch of models, gets some great make up artists and hair stylists to beautify them and we just go at it.

This time we were able to shoot at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which made for a beautiful backdrop. Even better…it was cold enough that we pretty much had the place to ourselves!

Beth - Beautiful! I love the shot with the tree lined walkway!

Laura - Beautiful location, makeup, styling, and models…though your talent in photography shines, these are all gorgeous.

Michael - Wow! Awesome photos!

Kim Hill - Wow – the location is amazing (especially the rows of trees). The images are fabulous!

What an Experience

If you know me at all, you know that I have never planned, nor do I ever plan to photograph weddings.

Don’t get me wrong…I love love….I love the excitement, the emotions, the details…all of that wedding stuff. But WOW….the pressure. It is hard to handle. Knowing that you are in charge of capturing the moments…those once in a lifetime moments… for a couple. You mess up, you end up on Judge Judy trying to explain why it really isn’t your fault.

I can’t handle the pressure.

But when my good friend Allison asked me to help out at the wedding of one of her best friends….I still hesitated. So not only do I feel pressure to help photograph the wedding, now I was doing it with one of my favorite photographers! More pressure.

But she convinced me that all would be ok. Allison, who was in the wedding, would do some shooting. Her associate Megan would be on hand to get all the important shots. It did help to relieve some of the pressure.

It was a gorgeous wedding…held at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. I got there early, captured some getting ready shots…I think I had a 10 minute break where I could sit. Big mistake, I didn’t want to get up. But really, the day and night flew by and I really, really loved every minute of it.

I loved it so much, I knew I wanted to remember my first wedding….as my last. What is the old saying…quit while you are ahead?

So now that it is long over, I can take the time to share some of my images from that day. Julie and Sam were amazing, and I am so thankful they let me be a part of their day!

Kim Hill - Such a gorgeous location. I swooned when I saw that giant window for the groom’s portrait. You should seriously reconsider weddings….you did a fabulous job here.

Beth - that location is amazing! Great work!

Fine Art Friday – Change

This image was taken from a recent trip to San Diego.
Annika and I were looking for seashells when we came across this clam shell, still in tact.
(Is it a clam, or do I assume that any shells that are attached like that must be a clam?)

Annika said it looked like a butterfly….and I couldn’t agree more.

I loved the quote, because change can be difficult…but if we remember the beauty that change brings for a caterpillar, that same beauty can happen when  things change around us as well.

Make sure to check out other Fine Art Friday pieces and head over to see Tracy Tisdale from Pensacola, Florida.

Amy Shertzer - This is beautiful and hits just the right emotional note. I love finding shells on the beach and I love it even more when it becomes art!

Cheree Federico - I absolutely love this, Britt! Butterflies are on of my faves and you are so right about the shell looking like a butterfly. The words you chose are a wonderful compliment to the image.

Jon - I have never seen butterflies when I come across shells like these. Amazing quote for this photo. You really brought a rather simple object to life with your camera. Love this image.

tracy - The details in this shot are wonderful. I love it! Totally love the butterfly!
