Meet Kelly Amonte Hiller | Make It Better

When Make It Better asked me if I could photograph Kelly Amonte Hiller for their January Power Players edition, I was pretty darn excited. Kelly is the Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Northwestern University. Kelly has done amazing things with the Lacrosse program at NU, resurrecting the program to win seven National Championships in the last eight years.

Make It Better was including her in their Power Players edition, and since she is such a local power player, featured her on their cover!

If you are local to the North Shore, you should subscribe to this fabulous magazine (it’s free!).
If you are from outside the area, you can read the digital copy, or download the Make It Better app to read it on your tablet!

Ready For A Sister! | Maternity Photographer

I truly believe that everyone who is pregnant, and is inevitably asked “do you want a boy or a girl?”, means it when they say, “it doesn’t matter as long as he or she is healthy.”

And I have no doubt Jessica and Brian felt the same way.
But I am also sure when they found out their 3rd child was going to be their 1st girl, they were a bit giddy inside….maybe Jessica more than Brian.

With two gorgeous, adorable little boys, they are finally adding a little girl to the mix. You may remember when Jessica and her family announced their pregnancy, and now we were ready to capture that gorgeous belly ready to pop!

Happy New Year!

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – by Michael Altshuler

Time for my end of the year post again.

Yes, time went by rather quickly, but like the quote said, I am the pilot! I am thrilled with how this year went, and I owe a lot of it to the great clients I had this year.

As my first full year in business in Illinois, I was blessed to meet so many people, get to know so many families, play with so many children.

I expanded Britt Anderson Photography with an exclusive High School Senior line – Britt Anderson Seniors.

I photographed my first wedding (and probably my last!), but loved the one I did!

I photographed what will probably be my final clients in Savannah and Hilton Head, as we finally sold our house there!

I photographed dozens of families, children and seniors!

To my clients of the past year and beyond, THANK YOU!

To my clients of next year and beyond, THANK YOU!

I look forward to many more sessions ahead.

Elf on the Shelf – Week 2

Well, we have another week under our belts…and surprisingly enough, I was able to pull off a few more ideas…well, I should say,  I was able to search Pinterest for a few more ideas and make them my own.

Every morning Annika wakes up, excited to see what Elfie has been up to.

I will admit, it feels great to be a mom watching her excitement. Makes the late nights, frantic searches for ideas worth it.

Debra Engelken - What a fun project! Time has flown too quick. If my children were young again, I would so do this!

Elf on the Shelf – Week 1…yes, we are doing it

Another year, another year for Elf on the Shelf!!!

Ahhh, the Elf us moms love to hate….and hate to love.

Before I go into our first week with Elfie, I did some googling, looking for new ideas, because come on…there are a LOT of days to cover, not to mention you can’t repeat from last year right?

I am humored to see so many blog posts dedicated to dissing Elf on the Shelf….and while I continue to delve into the life that is Elf on the Shelf, I have to nod my head right along with the mommy bloggers who dislike him so.

Sometimes our Elfie will do “naughty” things

…like write his name in toothpaste on the bathroom mirror…and Elfie is supposed to be reporting back to Santa when Annika misbehaves!!!
The nerve of Elfie being “bad” and turning around and tattling on Annika for being bad herself.
I get it.

Well, I am lucky, Annika has yet to make that connection….phew!
Not to mention, I have never had to pull the, “Elfie is watching you!!!” card.

If only Elfie cleaned up after himself

Yeah, I realized this one last year when I did the snow angel in the sugar bit…it sure was adorable, until I had to clean it all up.

You would have thought I learned my lesson, but no….I decide to put toothpaste all over the bathroom mirror. There is no greater pain then standing at the mirror for what seemed like hours, trying to take off the dried up toothpaste that was left by Elfie.

Oh wait, there is…cleaning up all the shaving cream I had used FIRST, but realized it just dripped down the mirror, leaving the message unreadable.

The 1am rush to get something done for the next day

This is probably the one that will cause me to quit first.

To be laying in bed, dreaming of the coffee I will be drinking the next morning, only to be awoken by the horror you haven’t put Elfie in motion for the next day. Thankfully I have my trusty iPhone with my Pinterest account hooked up. Scroll through, try and find the easiest one I can pull off with my eyes half shut…in the dark.

Creepy…yes, creepy

I see the word creepy being used a LOT when describing Elf on the Shelf.
What is it about a smiley little cherub with long eyelashes that creeps us out so much?

No idea…but it does.

And for some, it does a LOT.
For kicks, head over to the Amazon page for Elf on the Shelf, and see what some of the reviewers are saying…some are REALLY against Elf….like, WOW against.

SO while yes, I see a bunch of legitimate reasons NOT to do Elfie….I love it for my daughter. To see her giggle when waking up to see what Elfie is up to next…and getting a giggle out of any kid when you wake them up for school is a huge feat in of itself and you know it.

If her behavior hinged on Elfie…we wouldn’t be doing it.
If she was freaked out by those rosie cheeks…we wouldn’t be doing it.
If I had better things to do with my time…we wouldn’t be doing it.

Elf on the Shelf Week 1...yes, we are doing it randomness

But we are….and I am ok with it.

However….if you are someone who cringes when Elf season arrives…you must not have seen the Naughty Elf on the Shelf showcase.

THAT alone makes Elf on the Shelf worth it.

So what do you think about the Elf on the Shelf craze?
Feel free to comment.

tell me I am a whackadoodle for doing it….
tell me I am a grinch for agreeing with the nay-sayers….
or heck, even tell me I am brilliant…I accept it all.

Eileen Shows - I’m equal parts annoyed with the effort, and challenged by what to do next, apply this to everything I do every day and you have summed up motherhood ;) You can hate it or enjoy it, just do it.

Architecture Engineering Jobs - This is a great tradition and something I do in my family every year. The kids love it, and it really is something unique to Christmas. I love your take that every year he has another unique story and can possibly do bad things as well. Keep it up and I love the Elf!
